Fastball Uses dig as a crutch
Default My new bender

Getting ready to start building tubers this winter so I thought I would build a bender that would never tick me off with bad bends. It is a rotary draw style bender with a 7/16 bend radius on 3/16 tube, no kinks, repeatable, accurate! I will be building other die sets for additional sizes and radai. Not shown here is the handle that slips over the large shaft and puts pressure on the bending shoe as you pull on the handle to rotate the die. With this design the harder you pull the harder the shoe holds onto the tube. It works exactly like the large commercial units. Tell me what you think!

You'll build a few bad ass tubers, the word will get out and then you'll be able to make money off those benders too... nice work. that style of bender is a great tool on full scale it's got to be great for scalers too.

Thanks guys! So far the bender is working better than I could have hoped. I have tried it on everything from thin wall brass to 4130 chrome moly with great results. I am going to make some smaller radius dies this week to see just how tight a bend I can get on 3/16 stainless brake line and still keep a good quality bend. I am also going to modify a metal protractor and add it to the base with a pointer so I can get exactly the degree of bend I am looking for with repeatabiltiy. Now I just need to finish the design of the tuber!

You get a protractor on it then the only differance for a real one is the ratcheting mech., but i doubt you would need anything like that... if you have access to machine equip. like that i may have some comp rig chassis ideas to shoot your way...

Toyotaax10,

The one thing that I am blessed with at work and home is no shortage of tools. I have Solidworks, Solidcam, and Benc Tech Pro to design with, 2 cnc EZ track mills, a HAAS tm2, several lathes (none cnc), a cnc plasma table, and remote access to both laser and water jet cutting. I can weld damn near anything with my Miller wire feed and Syncrowave 300 tig at home. At work I am director of operations for a small company where we design and fabricate automated packaging equipment so I have lots of resources at my fingertips. I don't always have lots of time to design lots of cool rc stuff but I always have time to build.
